St. Eugene's Youth Ministry

line

St. Eugene's Youth Ministry welcomes all young people in grades 7 through 12 to come join their peers in a ministry where they can be themselves, make new friends, grow in their faith, share their unique gifts and find support for the challenging journey of life as a teen.

The parish expresses its love and care for youth by supporting a full-time Coordinator of Youth Ministry, as well as by offering their prayers and volunt-eering their time and talents.

Comprehensive Youth Ministry

Our parish uses the Comprehensive Youth Ministry model, outlined in the American Bishops' document Renewing the Vision (available in the parish Books & Gifts shop or online from USCCB). The Leadership Team plans events which are designed to integrate young people into the total life of the parish through involvement in prayer and worship, community life activities, justice and service events, retreats and catechetical sessions on topics which are of particular interest to teens.

Teen Town

Adjacent to the Becker Center gym, Teen Town is equipped with comfortable sofas, a big-screen TV, games, sports equipment, art supplies, snacks and a Christian resource library. Junior High and High School meetings are held here. Check the Youth Window on the west side of Teen Town (facing the school) for news and special events.

Junior High Ministry

Youth in 7th & 8th grades gather in Teen Town on Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM (mid-September through mid-June) for a variety of activities. A team of high school students and adults plan and lead a variety of activities on these evenings, as well as on other days and times (check calendar for current schedule of events).

High School Ministry

All high school youth are invited to meet in Teen Town on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (mid-September through mid-June). Peer leaders plan and lead a variety of activities on these evenings, as well as on other days and times (check calendar for current schedule of events).

Confirmation

All high school youth are invited and encouraged to sign up to participate in High School Youth Ministry. Within this comprehensive program, immediate preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation is available, beginning in the sophomore year. This part of the ministry is a one-year process of exploring their faith and discerning their own path, through participating with other young people in a variety of activities in the parish, and eventually making a decision regarding their wish to be confirmed.

For the 2011-2012 year, Confirmation meetings will be held on Sunday evenings beginning in October. Participants will attend 5:30 PM Mass and then meet together in the Parish Life Center for dinner and a meeting session.

Leadership Team

Youth and adults alike can make a one-year commitment to serving on one of four leadership teams: Liturgy, Community Life, Justice and Service and Catechesis. The team members attend the diocesan Youth Leader Training Retreat in August, with monthly training sessions following on the eight componets of youth ministry. Each team is responsible for planning and leading an event monthly.

Youth Music Team

The Youth Music Team provides music for the 5:30 PM Mass on Sundays. All high school youth who wish to sing or play an instrument are welcome to come to rehearsal Sundays at 4:30 PM in the Cathedral. For more information contact Aggie Bailey baileya@steugeneschool.org.
