St. Eugene's Youth Ministry Programs
High School Youth Group
If you’re passing by the Monsignor Becker Center and you happen to hear the sound of hysterical laughter, or perhaps you even catch a glimpse of a creative skit or “interpretive dance” being performed in front of a brightly colored mural in Teen Town, chances are you’ve stumbled across a meeting of the St. Eugene ’s High School Youth Group. The group meets on a weekly basis between the months of October and May in the Teen Town room in the Becker Center. Meetings cover a variety of topics including Church teachings, personal faith development, social justice, and issues specifically relating to young people in today’s culture. The High School Youth Group is open to any and all high school students interested in joining.
Junior High Youth Ministry
St. Eugene’s Junior High Youth Ministry program meets on a monthly basis during the school year in the Monsignor Becker Center. Each individual session has a specific theme that relates to the role of a young leader in the Catholic Church. Meetings start with the sharing of a simple meal as participants arrive and the schedule of activities on any given night will include games, ice-breakers, and community building initiatives, all facilitated by a leadership team of high school students under the guidance of the Coordinator of Youth Ministry. The basic principle guiding the program is that exploring one’s Catholic faith can be an entirely unifying, rewarding, and FUN experience. All junior high-aged youth are welcome to participate in the program.
Confirmation Preparation Program
The St. Eugene’s Confirmation Program is a one-year program between the months of October and May. Meetings are held weekly in the Parish Life Center right after the Sunday 5:30 Mass. The program is a year of spiritual preparation and community building, during which young people are invited to turn a prayerful heart towards God’s call to be an active member of both the local St. Eugene’s Parish community and the greater community of the Catholic Church. Meeting topics are based on the themes from the Gospel reading for that weekend and each session is facilitated by a group of high school peer leaders and adult volunteers under the guidance of the Coordinator of Youth Ministry. The Confirmation Program is open to everyone entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of high school. Registration takes place during the month of September and participation in the parish Generations of Faith religious education program is a mandatory component of the Confirmation preparation process.
Youth Liturgy Team
The St. Eugene’s Youth Liturgy Team helps to plan and organize the celebration of the monthly Youth Mass, celebrated on the fourth Sunday of each month at the 5:30 Mass. The Youth Mass features members of the St. Eugene’s youth community serving in various different liturgical ministry roles, as well as music provided by our very own Youth Music Team who play each week at the 5:30 Mass. As part of the planning process, the Youth Liturgy Team will explore the readings for the Mass, discuss the main themes, choose relative music for the celebration, and invite other members of the youth community to be active participants in the liturgy. We invite all members of the parish community to join us at the Youth Mass each month.
